Fusebox Upgrade Bristol
What is a fusebox?
All the electricity flowing through the circuits in your home has been distributed by the fusebox. The fusebox, also commonly now known as a consumer unit, plays a crucial role in the safe delivery of current from the mains to all the various areas in your home, powering electrical installations such as lighting.
Should I consider a fusebox upgrade?
There are some signs which indicate your fusebox may be faulty or defective. You might want to call MES Electrical services if you notice the following:
- Damage or scorch marks on the outer case.
- Dimming of flickering lights.
- Electric shocks.
- Blown fuses.
I use a range of electrical testing tools to help when investigating the fusebox at your Bristol based home, I’ll be able to determine quickly whether the fusebox needs to be upgraded. I’m always ready to impart the best advice going forward.
Should an outdated fusebox be upgraded?
Fuseboxes older than 25-30 years need to be upgraded to ensure they are in line with current building regulations. Older fuseboxes also lack safety devices such as RCDs and MCBs which act quickly to prevent electrocution.
The average modern home in Bristol uses a number of electrical appliances. In some cases, electrical systems such as EV home chargers and solar panels can put great strain on the electrical demands. My recommendation would be to consider a fusebox upgrade to safely manage the load if you do have additional electrical systems at your home.
Modern fuseboxes are also clearly labelled which makes my work as an electrician much easier especially during emergency electrical fault finding and repair work.
What happens during a fusebox upgrade?
Before I start any work on the fusebox, the power at the mains supply will need to be turned off to ensure your home in Bristol is safe, but to also ensure safety amongst individuals on site.
The old or faulty fusebox is then disconnected but not without recording the position of any connecting wires. Once the new fusebox is mounted and installed, individual wires for each circuit at your home are then connected.
Before handing over an EIC or electrical installation certificate, I’ll need to conduct a series of tests to make sure the new fusebox is safe and functioning as it should. An EIC will also confirm compliance with UK building regulations.
